Happy 4th of July

This year for the 4th, Zane and I decided it would be fun to drive up north to San Francisco and spend the holiday weekend there. We packed all of our stuff and on the road we were Saturday morning. Not even 2 hours into our 8 hour drive, poor little Cally throws up her breakfast all over herself and the carseat. We pull over, clean her and the carseat up and get back on the road.

We arrived in San Francisco in the evening and decided to go check out Fisherman's Wharf and grab some dinner. Since it's San Francisco, I thought it would cool off a bit at night time but I never anticipated it being as cold as it was! The wind sure didn't help either. I didn't really pack accordingly since it's July and I assumed the weather even up north would be nice. Luckily I found a Gap Kids and was able to find some leggings for Cally. By the end of the trip, I had bought myself a fleece jacket as well since my light cardigan wasn't cutting it any longer.

As we walked around Fisherman's Wharf, Cally began to get pretty cranky and she would cry loudly in random spurts. I knew something was bothering her because it's not like her to cry like that. By the end of the evening she was in a full out cry and Zane and I rushed back to the hotel. She kept pointing to her diaper and after checking it several times without finding anything I figured she must have a UTI. When we got back to the hotel we debated on what we should do, whether to wait it out or take her to the ER to get some antibiotics. I knew it would only get worse and our 4th of July would be ruined if we didn't address it right away. So at 11pm at night, we found the nearest ER and took her in. We spent several hours there, waiting to be seen and hear the results of her urine tests. The doctor finally confirmed that she did in fact have a UTI and Cally was given antibiotics right away.

The following day she was alot better. No complaints at all. We spent the day going to Alcatraz and checking out it's famous prison, and walking around Pier 39 and all of it's shops and restaurants. We went back to the hotel and all 3 of us took a nap since we were still pretty exhausted from the night before. After getting some rest, we went back out and enjoyed some live music while waiting for the fireworks. The fireworks show was great and Cally really enjoyed them.

The following day, we went down to Union square and rode in the cable cars. We finished our trip by driving on the Golden Gate Bridge. We had a great weekend overall, even with an ER visit, and freezing our butts off in July!

  2. Bahaha! I always have to laugh at tourists.... thinking it's California- it's not cold. The Bay AREA is freezing!! The wind and the bay are like a different chill- cold to the bone. Christine Bouchard did the same thing a few months back. Hahaha. Love you guys... looks like a great trip considering poor Cally. Wish you had called me I could've directed you to a good ER!
